Parineeta Turns 20: Sunidhi Chauhan Revisits ‘Kaisi Paheli Zindagani’ as Film Returns to Cinemas in 8K Glory
Mumbai, Aug 28 (TTP): Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s timeless romantic drama Parineeta has completed 20 years since its release and is all set to return to theatres in restored 8K quality. Originally released in 2005, the film has been digitally restored and remastered, making this re-release a special celebration of Indian cinema’s heritage.
On the occasion, celebrated singer Sunidhi Chauhan revisited one of her most iconic songs, Kaisi Paheli Zindagani, which continues to resonate with fans even after two decades.
Reflecting on the song, Sunidhi said, “Kaisi Paheli Zindagani was such a unique and refreshing song for me. It carried an old-world charm mixed with a cabaret vibe. What made it even more special was that it was picturised on Rekha ji—an icon, a legend, and someone I have admired all my life. When I recorded it, I didn’t know she would perform it on screen, and she lit it up with such grace. To have my voice match her timeless presence felt like the highest honour.”
Taking to social media, the singer added, “20 years later, it still lingers, the music still soars, and the love still feels new. Here’s raising a toast to the cast & creators as it returns in all its 8K glory! #Parineeta back in cinemas Aug 29th, exclusively for a week. Restored in 8K by: @prasad_corp @prasadfilmlabs. Restoration Producer: Yogesh Ishwar Dhabuwala.”
A Landmark Celebration for Indian Cinema
Based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novel, Parineeta marked Vidya Balan’s Bollywood debut, establishing her as one of the finest performers of her generation. With this re-release, the film not only celebrates 20 years of Vidya’s illustrious journey but also marks 50 glorious years of Vinod Chopra Films.
The restoration project was carried out by Prasad Film Labs, making Vinod Chopra Films the first production house in India to restore its entire film library in 8K resolution, with soundtracks remastered in 5.1 surround sound. Part of the restoration work was completed at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy, a globally renowned lab for film preservation. The meticulous process took over four years.
The Enduring Legacy of Kaisi Paheli Zindagani
Composed by Shantanu Moitra with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Kaisi Paheli Zindagani has become one of Bollywood’s most elegant musical gems. Rekha’s stunning screen presence combined with Sunidhi’s unforgettable voice elevated the track into a timeless classic that still captivates audiences today.
As Parineeta returns to cinemas on August 29 for an exclusive one-week run, audiences across generations will once again experience its soulful story of love, longing, and cultural richness on the big screen—this time in breathtaking 8K clarity.
