Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, conveyed New Year greetings to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and held discussions on further strengthening the India–Israel Strategic Partnership, with a particular focus on regional stability and the ongoing Gaza Peace Plan.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Prime Minister Modi received a call from his Israeli counterpart, during which the two leaders exchanged greetings and wished the people of both nations peace and prosperity in the year ahead.
“The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s consistent support for efforts towards a just and durable peace in the region,” the PMO said, underlining India’s long-standing position on stability in West Asia.
Focus on Strategic Partnership
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi described the conversation as warm and forward-looking. He said the leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the India–Israel Strategic Partnership in the coming year and exchanged views on the evolving regional situation.
The two leaders identified shared priorities to deepen cooperation, stressing democratic values, mutual trust, and a forward-looking vision as the foundation of bilateral ties. India and Israel have steadily expanded collaboration across defence, technology, innovation, agriculture, and security over the past decade.
Zero Tolerance Towards Terrorism
A key theme of the conversation was the joint commitment to counter terrorism. Both leaders reiterated a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, reaffirming their shared resolve to fight the menace with greater determination.
The PMO statement noted that Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu strongly condemned terrorism and agreed that coordinated international efforts are essential to address security challenges in the region.
Context of Recent Engagements
This marks the second conversation between the two leaders in less than a month. On December 10, Prime Minister Netanyahu had spoken to Prime Minister Modi to brief him on the situation in West Asia. During that interaction, Modi had reiterated India’s support for early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan.
Subsequently, on December 16, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Prime Minister Netanyahu, where discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in technology, economy, connectivity, and security. Both sides had expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to grow stronger.
Prime Minister Netanyahu had earlier indicated that he and Prime Minister Modi would be meeting “very soon,” signalling continued high-level engagement between the two countries.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople
The latest conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Netanyahu reflects the depth and continuity of India–Israel relations. As geopolitical tensions persist in West Asia, sustained dialogue, a shared stance against terrorism, and commitment to peace initiatives like the Gaza Peace Plan remain central to the strategic partnership.
