Telangana HC Directs State Govt to Start Pension Process for Retired JudgeSource: NDTV
Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday directed the state government to immediately initiate the process of granting pension to former High Court judge Justice G Sridevi and submit details before the next hearing scheduled on January 5, 2026.
Justice Sridevi, who retired in October 2022, approached the court after the pension process remained pending for nearly three years. Her counsel argued that the delay was illegal and arbitrary, seeking immediate release of pension along with arrears, interest and other consequential benefits.
A division bench observed that the prolonged delay was unjustified and ordered the government to commence the pension process without further delay. The court also directed the authorities to place a detailed status report on record by the next date of hearing.
The case highlights concerns over administrative lapses affecting retired members of the judiciary and the timely disbursal of post-retirement benefits.
Our Final Thoughts
Timely pension disbursal is a statutory right, especially for retired judges who have served the constitutional system. The High Court’s directive reinforces accountability and underscores the need for efficient administrative processes in handling post-retirement benefits.
