Sunny Deol’s ‘Gabru’ Release Postponed to May 8 Amid Box Office Clash Concerns
Mumbai: After the strong response to Border 2, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is preparing for his next theatrical release, Gabru. The film, directed by Shashank Udapurkar, will now hit cinemas on May 8 this year.
Originally scheduled for release on March 13, the makers have decided to postpone the film. While no official reason has been announced, the new date appears to avoid a box office clash with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Yash’s Toxic, both slated for March 19.
A Personal Project for Sunny Deol
Backed by producers Vishal Rana and Om Chhangani, Gabru promises to present Deol in a powerful and emotionally intense role. The actor has described the film as deeply personal, stating that it explores themes of courage, identity and resilience — elements closely associated with his cinematic image.
The film also stars Simran and Prit Kamani in key roles.
Music and Distribution
The soundtrack features music composed by Mithoon, with lyrics by Sayeed Quadri, Satinder Sartaj and Anurag Saikya. The nationwide distribution will be handled by PVR INOX Pictures.
The first look of Gabru was unveiled in October 2025 on Deol’s 68th birthday. The teaser showed him carrying the body of a young girl in one scene and sitting in a traditional kurta-pajama with a serious expression in another, ending with the title reveal.
Upcoming Projects
Apart from Gabru, Deol will also headline Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film marks the return of Preity Zinta to the big screen.
With the revised release date, industry observers will closely watch how Gabru performs in May, away from a major box office clash.
Our Final Thoughts
The decision to move Gabru to May reflects a strategic step to ensure a clear run at the box office. With strong competition expected in March, the new release window may offer Sunny Deol’s film better visibility and audience attention. Given the actor’s recent success and the emotional tone of the project, expectations remain steady. The film’s music lineup and experienced production team add to its appeal. As Sunny Deol balances nostalgia-driven roles with fresh narratives, Gabru could become another important chapter in his enduring career.
