New Delhi, February 17: British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron has described collaboration on technology and innovation as a central pillar of the India-UK Vision 2035, ahead of the arrival of UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and AI Minister Kanishka Narayan for the AI Impact Summit in the national capital.
AI Impact Summit 2026 in Focus
The AI Impact Summit, being held in New Delhi from February 16 to 20, is bringing together heads of state, ministers, global technology leaders, researchers, multilateral institutions and industry stakeholders. The summit aims to examine how artificial intelligence can drive inclusive growth, strengthen public systems and support sustainable development.
It also marks the first time an AI gathering of this scale is being hosted in the Global South, highlighting India’s growing role in shaping global digital policy discussions.
UK Highlights Strategic Cooperation
In a statement shared on X, Cameron said she was looking forward to welcoming Lammy and Narayan to Delhi, emphasising that cooperation in technology and innovation remains a key pillar of the UK-India Vision 2035 roadmap.
She recalled attending the AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park in 2023 and said it was significant that India is now leading global conversations on artificial intelligence.
According to an official UK government statement, the delegation will use the summit to promote AI as a driver of economic growth, job creation and improved public services worldwide.
AI as Engine of Renewal
Lammy said the summit represents an important opportunity to work with international partners to unlock AI’s potential while ensuring robust and fair safety standards. He added that business leaders accompanying the delegation would seek partnerships and investments benefiting both countries.
Narayan described AI as the defining technology of the current generation, stating that it can reduce waiting times, improve public services and create new employment opportunities.
Regional Engagement
Before arriving in India, Lammy visited Sri Lanka and met President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The Sri Lankan leader said the visit reinforced global confidence in the country’s recovery following its economic crisis and Cyclone Ditwah.
Conclusion
The UK delegation’s participation underlines the importance both countries attach to emerging technologies. As India hosts a major global AI forum, the summit is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation and shape discussions on responsible AI development at the international level.
Our Final Thoughts
The AI Impact Summit reflects the shifting centre of global technology conversations toward emerging economies. India’s decision to host such a large-scale gathering signals its ambition to influence how artificial intelligence is governed and applied worldwide. For the United Kingdom, participation reinforces its commitment to deepening ties with India under Vision 2035. As both nations look to balance innovation with safety standards, their cooperation in AI could shape not only bilateral growth but also broader international norms.
