Delhi Shivers as Mercury Falls to Season’s Lowest
Delhi witnessed its coldest December day of the year on Wednesday as the maximum temperature slipped to 23.7°C, marking a 1.6°C dip below normal. This fresh drop comes after the previous seasonal low of 24.3°C recorded in November. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), last year’s lowest November maximum was 14.6°C, showing a sharper fall this season.
The minimum temperature stood at 6.4°C, which is 3.1°C below normal, making the morning hours particularly chilly for residents across the capital.
Fog and Cold Wave Conditions Expected
The IMD forecast for Thursday warns of moderate fog, especially during early morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle at 23°C and 6°C, respectively.
The Air Quality Early Warning System reported that Delhi will experience a mainly clear sky with shallow fog, along with cold wave conditions at isolated locations today.
Wind Pattern for the Day
Meteorologists noted that westerly winds with speeds up to 10 km/h are likely during the morning. By the afternoon, the wind direction is expected to shift to the northwest, maintaining similar speeds through the evening and night.
Our Final Thoughts
Delhi’s early winter chill signals a sharper temperature drop ahead, with fog likely to worsen morning visibility. As cold wave conditions develop in pockets, residents should stay prepared for harsher winter days to come.
