MCA Names Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, Humaira Kazi as Icon Players for T20 Mumbai Women’s League
Mumbai, May 1: The Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday announced Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor and Humaira Kazi as icon players for the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League.
Sayali will represent SoBo Mumbai Falcons, while Saima and Humaira have been picked by Thane Sky Risers and Aakash Tigers respectively.
Both Sayali and Saima have been part of the India set-up and bring international exposure, while Humaira has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and has represented India A.
MCA president Ajinkya Naik said the selection of icon players lays the groundwork for the league’s first season and will help set competitive standards. League governing council chairman Rajdip Gupta said the presence of experienced players would help shape team identity and balance.
The player auction for both the men’s and women’s T20 Mumbai leagues is scheduled for Saturday. A total of 2,411 players have registered, including 363 women.
Teams in the women’s competition will have squads of 16 to 18 players, while men’s teams will consist of 18 to 20 players.
The league marks an expansion of Mumbai’s domestic cricket structure, with a focus on increasing opportunities in the women’s game.
