Ahmedabad, Dec 7: The Gujarati edition of “Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hai,” the biography of Anandiben Patel — Gujarat’s first woman Chief Minister and current Governor of Uttar Pradesh — was released in Ahmedabad on Saturday. The book was unveiled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and spiritual leader Ramesh Oza during a special ceremony attended by political, social and cultural leaders.
Speaking at the launch, Amit Shah described Anandiben Patel’s life as a powerful example of determination and resilience. He said her journey from a simple family background to becoming a schoolteacher, MLA, minister, Chief Minister of Gujarat and Governor of three states defines the true strength of Indian womanhood. Shah added that Anandiben worked not for power but for purpose, contributing significantly to organisation-building within the BJP. He praised her active leadership in Uttar Pradesh, noting her energy at the age of 85 and her commitment to improving education and ensuring better implementation of government schemes.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said Anandiben’s tenure as Chief Minister left a deep impact on Gujarat through strong governance, reforms in education, women’s empowerment, water management and development. He added that the title of the book itself reflects her fearless approach and her ability to face challenges head-on, making the biography especially inspiring for young women.
Anandiben Patel shared her personal journey, recalling her early years as a teacher and her entry into public life during drought relief work. She credited the BJP for shaping her political growth and announced that proceeds from the book will be used to support girls’ education. She also highlighted her ongoing work as Governor of Uttar Pradesh to strengthen education from anganwadis to universities.
Ramesh Oza described Anandiben as a living example of women’s strength, discipline and service, saying the biography would serve as a guide for anyone facing hardship. Family members Sanjay Patel and Anar Patel also spoke, sharing memories of her courage and moral clarity.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, cabinet ministers, former Deputy CM Nitin Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain and several education leaders and social representatives.
Our Thoughts
The release of “Chunautiyan Mujhe Pasand Hai” marks an important moment in documenting the life and achievements of one of Gujarat’s most influential leaders. Anandiben Patel’s journey reflects how dedication, discipline and courage can transform an individual from a classroom teacher into a national figure with significant administrative impact. Her story stands out as a reminder that leadership is not defined by background but by determination and purpose.
Amit Shah’s remarks highlight how Anandiben never pursued positions for personal gain but worked with a long-term vision for organisation-building and public welfare. This sentiment is echoed in her own decision to donate book proceeds toward girls’ education, reinforcing her commitment to empowering future generations.
The biography’s launch also comes at a time when conversations around women’s leadership in India are expanding. Anandiben’s experiences — from drought relief work to educational reforms and governance — offer valuable lessons on resilience in public life. The presence of political leaders, spiritual figures and community representatives at the event shows the wide respect she commands across sectors.
Overall, the book serves not only as a biography but also as a motivation for women and youth to embrace challenges with confidence and purpose.
