New Delhi, India – In anticipation of the 75th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2024, the national capital is set to enforce airspace restrictions for a total of 11 days, according to officials. These measures are aimed at ensuring the smooth execution of Republic Day preparations and events, with French President Emmanuel Macron slated to be the chief guest, marking the 6th occasion of a French leader gracing the Republic Day celebrations.
The restrictions will be effective from January 19 to 25, resuming on January 26 and extending to January 29. During January 19-25, non-scheduled flights of both scheduled airlines and chartered flights will be prohibited from landing or taking off between 10 am and 1:15 pm. However, scheduled flights will remain unaffected during this period. The Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) specifies that restrictions from January 26 to 29 will be in place from 6 am to 9 pm.
On Republic Day, January 26, a comprehensive no-fly window will be observed from 6 am to 9 pm. This includes the prohibition of both take-offs and landings at Delhi airports. Notably, these restrictions will not impact operations by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), Army aviation helicopters, and state-owned aircraft or helicopters carrying the Governor/Chief Minister of a state.
In a historic move, the Republic Day parade will feature the Border Security Force's (BSF) all-women marching and brass band contingents on Kartavya Path. Led by an Assistant Commandant rank woman officer and two subordinate officers, a total of 144 women BSF constables will participate in this significant event, highlighting the commitment to gender inclusivity and empowerment.
Ahead of Republic Day, the Delhi Police has intensified vigilance in the national capital. As part of their preparedness, the Delhi East District Police conducted a mock drill at Akshardham Temple, simulating a terrorist attack scenario. This exercise aimed to evaluate the force's readiness in responding to diverse crisis situations, contributing to an enhanced overall security preparedness for the upcoming national event.
The Republic Day celebrations on January 26 will not only commemorate India's journey towards becoming an independent republic but will also showcase the country's commitment to inclusivity and security in the presence of international dignitaries.
