Sridevi was born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan; August 13, 1963 – February 24, 2018 is an Indian actress and producer who has played in Tamil films, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. She was considered the first female superstar of Indian cinema. She has received a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards and three Filmfare Awards. In a career spanning five decades, she was known for her sensitive portraits of women thrown into difficult situations and appearing in various genres, ranging from slapstick comedy to melodrama. Sridevi is the highest paid woman in the Indian entertainment industry in the 1980s and 1990s and is considered one of the most important and influential actresses in the history of Indian cinema.
In 2013, the Indian government awarded Sridevi the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian honor for contributions to the entertainment industry. The state governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala also awarded him honorary prizes. Sridevi was also voted “the greatest Indian actress in 100 years” in a national CNN-IBN poll conducted in 2013 on the occasion of the centenary of Indian cinema.
On February 24, 2018, Sridevi was found dead in her room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The coroner’s official report showed that she had accidentally drowned in the bath, with unconsciousness being cited as a contributing factor. The news of his death has been prominent in Indian and international media. She was married to film producer Boney Kapoor, with whom she had two children.
Sridevi has always been accompanied by her mother Rajeshwari or her sister Srilatha on filming during the filming of her films between 1972 and 1993. Sanjay Ramaswamy has been married to her sister Srilatha since 1989.
Her father died in 1991 while shooting for Lamhe. Her mother died in 1996 from complications she suffered during a surgery in 1995 on a brain tumor at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The neurosurgeon operated on the wrong side of his brain destroying vital vision tissues and recent memory. This was widely reported in the US media at that time, which then led to a successful court battle and prompted President Bill Clinton to come up with a program for hospitals to disclose their medical faults and mistakes.
She is known for her on-screen portrayal of a strong, vivacious and exuberant woman, Sridevi was an extremely introverted and reserved person. CNN-IBN correspondent Rajeev Masand said, “I have never known anyone who was so timidly shy, so silent off-screen, who turned into a force of nature when the cameras appeared It was the interviewer’s nightmare, but the moviegoer’s dream. ” Commenting on her reserved nature, Firstpost says, “Behind the glamorous heroine with sparkling eyes, magical eyes, and amazing face, was an inherently shy woman, often considered arrogant, the truth is that she was shy. to act at 12, she did not finish her studies or have a great chance to interact with children her age, so she developed a strong aversion to the crowd and the noise.
