Hrithik Roshan once criticised actors doing their own stunts, calling it unnecessary and risky
A past interview of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has resurfaced online, where he strongly voiced his opinion against actors performing their own stunts in films. In the interaction with Lehren TV, Hrithik explained why he believes action sequences should be handled by trained professionals rather than actors attempting them themselves.
The actor said that trying to perform dangerous stunts can often become an “ego trip” and may undermine the work of professional stunt performers.
“I don't believe in doing your stunts yourself. I think it is stupid. It should be banned,” Hrithik said in the interview.
During the conversation, Hrithik emphasised that filmmaking is a collaborative process where each professional contributes their expertise.
“You're an actor, you're creating a magical world, a fantasy world,” he said, adding that multiple specialists—from makeup artists to costume designers—work together to make cinematic storytelling believable.
Highlighting the importance of stunt professionals, he added, “A stuntman’s job is to do stunts. He comes into that space, does his job, and creates one more piece of that big picture.”
The actor argued that insisting on performing dangerous action sequences personally is similar to an actor claiming they should also write their own dialogues.
Hrithik’s comments have sparked renewed discussions among film fans and industry observers, particularly as the debate around actors performing their own stunts continues to be a common topic in action cinema.
Ironically, Hrithik himself has featured in several action-heavy films, including the Krrish superhero franchise.
During the making of Krrish, Hrithik reportedly attempted a stunt that involved jumping between buildings using a harness. According to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, the harness snapped during the sequence, causing Hrithik to fall from a considerable height. Fortunately, he escaped without major injuries.
The incident is often cited as an example of the risks involved in high-octane action filmmaking.
