Delhi Plans AIIMS-Style Super Medical Hub by Integrating Three Major Hospitals
New Delhi, March 16 (TheTrendingPeople): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has proposed the creation of a large integrated medical hub in the capital by combining three major government hospitals — Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Delhi State Cancer Institute, and Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital. The initiative aims to develop a unified healthcare facility modelled on the structure of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Announcing the proposal on Monday through a social media post, the Chief Minister said the integration would increase bed capacity, simplify diagnostic procedures, and streamline referrals between departments.
According to Gupta, the new “super medical hub” is expected to reduce waiting times for treatment and provide faster and more efficient healthcare services to patients across the national capital.
The proposal follows a broader plan to strengthen Delhi’s public healthcare infrastructure and improve the accessibility of specialised medical services.
In a message shared earlier on Sunday, the Chief Minister stated that the integration would transform the three institutions into a more autonomous and empowered healthcare body similar to AIIMS, enabling better management and coordination of medical services.

One of the key reasons behind the proposal is the uneven distribution of patients across government hospitals.
Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital currently has a sanctioned capacity of around 650 beds but is operating with only about 250 beds in use, leaving nearly 400 beds unused.
In contrast, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, which has a capacity of approximately 1,400 beds, is reportedly handling more than 1,500 patients due to high demand.
By linking the three institutions under a unified administrative and medical framework, the government hopes to balance patient flow and make better use of available resources.
In her statement, CM Gupta said the initiative would significantly enhance healthcare services in the capital.
She said the integration would make treatment processes more organised, improve the quality of medical care, and ensure that patients receive specialised treatment more quickly.
Health policy observers believe that such consolidation could help streamline hospital operations and reduce the burden on overcrowded medical facilities.
If implemented successfully, the proposed super medical hub could become one of the largest public healthcare complexes in the region.
