Taapsee Pannu–Anubhav Sinha Reunite for ‘Assi’: Actor Calls It an “Urgent Watch” Ahead of February 20 Release
Actor Taapsee Pannu is all set to collaborate once again with filmmaker Anubhav Sinha for their third project together, Assi – An Urgent Watch. After delivering powerful performances in Mulk and Thappad, the duo now returns with another socially charged narrative.
Speaking about her experience, Taapsee said she does not want to restrict Sinha to the space of courtroom dramas alone. According to her, the director has a rare ability to make stories feel “dramatically real” and uncomfortably close to everyday life. Whether it is Article 15 or Mulk, she believes his storytelling holds up a mirror that audiences sometimes find difficult to face.
The actress emphasised that Sinha presents reality in such an effortless way that it becomes impossible to ignore. She added that actors feel secure in his films because the material, the scenes, and the emotional beats are so sharply constructed that there is little room for a committed performer to falter.
Assi features an ensemble cast including Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, with special appearances by Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, and Seema Pahwa.
Presented by T-Series and produced under Benaras Media Works, the film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on February 20.
Our Thoughts
The Taapsee–Anubhav partnership has consistently delivered cinema that sparks conversation without losing emotional depth. If Assi continues that tradition, it could once again challenge audiences while offering performances rooted in authenticity. Their creative synergy suggests this third outing may be less about repetition and more about evolution.
