Rajkummar Rao Gains 10 Kg For ‘Nikam’, Prepares For Sourav Ganguly Biopic Next
Actor Rajkummar Rao is once again proving why he is considered one of the most committed performers in Hindi cinema. The actor recently wrapped up shooting for his upcoming biopic on celebrated public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, and revealed that the role demanded a significant physical transformation.
In a candid Instagram post, Rajkummar shared that he gained around 9–10 kilograms to convincingly portray Nikam. He also made his hair appear thinner to align with the character’s look, despite initial hesitation from his hairstylist. The actor emphasised that he prefers achieving authenticity through physical effort rather than relying heavily on prosthetics.
This is not the first time Rajkummar has undergone extreme changes for a role. He previously went half bald for Bose and lost considerable weight for Trapped. He also stayed in character as a visually impaired man even off-camera during the making of Srikanth. For Nikam, the actor admitted to indulging in pizzas, sweets, aloo parathas and biryani to achieve the required weight gain.
The biopic, titled Nikam, is expected to release soon. Rajkummar expressed hope that audiences will recognise the dedication and effort put into shaping the character.
Interestingly, even before the release of Nikam, the actor has already begun preparing for his next major project — a biopic on former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly. Popularly known as “Dada,” Ganguly remains one of Indian cricket’s most influential leaders, and Rajkummar has now entered a transition phase to shed the extra kilos and prepare physically for the role.
The actor concluded his note by reaffirming his commitment to working hard to engage and entertain audiences through his craft.
Our Thoughts
Rajkummar Rao’s method-driven dedication continues to set him apart in an industry often driven by glamour. His refusal to depend on prosthetics and willingness to physically transform for authenticity reflects an old-school commitment to performance. With back-to-back biopics on Ujjwal Nikam and Sourav Ganguly, the actor seems poised for another impactful phase in his career. If his past transformations are any indication, audiences can expect two sharply distinct portrayals shaped by discipline, detail, and immersion.
