Prakash Raj Joins Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s Directorial ‘Saraswathi’ As Lawyer Ramanujam
The makers of Saraswathi, which marks the directorial debut of actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, have unveiled the first look of Prakash Raj from the film. The veteran actor will be seen playing a lawyer named Ramanujam in the upcoming thriller.
Production house Dosa Diaries shared a behind-the-scenes promo featuring Prakash Raj on set and thanked him for being their “Ramanujam.” Varalaxmi also expressed her gratitude, calling it a pleasure to have the celebrated actor as part of her debut project.
The film completed its shoot on December 30 last year. Announcing the wrap earlier, Varalaxmi had described the journey as intense and emotional, thanking every member of the cast and crew for contributing to what she termed an “amazing journey.” The film is being produced by Varalaxmi and her sister Pooja under their banner, Dosa Diaries.
Saraswathi features an ensemble cast including Priyamani, Radhikaa Sarathkumar and Naveen Chandra in pivotal roles. The project also boasts a strong technical team with music by Thaman S, cinematography by Edwin Sakay and editing by Venkat Raajen.
While plot details remain under wraps, industry sources suggest that the film will be a new-age thriller designed to keep audiences hooked from start to finish.
Meanwhile, Varalaxmi continues to expand her horizons internationally. She will be seen alongside Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons in the Hollywood project Rizana – A Caged Bird. Speaking about working with the iconic actor, she had earlier described the experience as surreal, calling it a dream come true.
With Prakash Raj stepping into the role of Ramanujam and Varalaxmi turning director, Saraswathi has already begun generating strong anticipation.
Our Thoughts
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s transition from actor to director marks an important milestone in her career. Bringing on board an actor of Prakash Raj’s stature signals ambition and confidence in the project. His portrayal of a lawyer suggests layered courtroom drama elements within a thriller framework. Combined with Thaman’s music and a seasoned supporting cast, Saraswathi appears positioned as a serious content-driven film rather than a conventional commercial outing. If executed well, this directorial debut could redefine Varalaxmi’s space in the industry.
