Dharmendra Pradhan Launches AI-Focused BS & MBA Programs At IIM Lucknow + Push For Ethical AI Leadership
New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday unveiled three new Artificial Intelligence-focused programmes at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s AI ecosystem.
The newly announced courses include a four-year BS in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics, a Tech MBA, and an integrated BS + Tech MBA programme. While the BS (AI & Business Analytics) will begin from the 2026–27 academic session, the Tech MBA is scheduled to roll out from 2027–28. Students pursuing the BS programme will have the option to complete an integrated BS + Tech MBA degree within five years.
Speaking at the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave, Pradhan said India aims to emerge as a global leader in ethical AI. He stressed that management institutions must play a crucial role in integrating AI with business innovation and real-world societal applications. According to the minister, India’s large young workforce offers a unique opportunity to develop indigenous AI models that cater to both national priorities and global demands.
He underlined that AI adoption should enhance outcomes in education, healthcare and public services, while remaining aligned with human values and inclusive development goals.
IIM Lucknow Director MP Gupta stated that the programmes are designed to combine technological depth with business acumen. He added that the modular curriculum aims to bridge the gap between innovation and commercially viable AI-driven business models.
The move signals the government’s continued push to position India as a major AI hub while promoting responsible and sustainable technological growth.
