SHIVAMOGGA: The Shivamogga district administration will organise a workshop on the implementation of the Karnataka government’s flagship five guarantee schemes at Kuvempu Ranga Mandira on January 21, officials said.
Addressing a press conference on January 19, C S Chandra Bhupal, chairperson of the Shivamogga District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Authority, said the workshop is being jointly organised by departments responsible for implementing the schemes. The event will focus on public interaction, beneficiary feedback, and showcasing success stories from across the district.
According to Bhupal, the programme will include direct interactions with beneficiaries, an exhibition highlighting the impact of the schemes, and a procession through the city to create awareness among the public.
Beneficiaries to Share Experiences
A key highlight of the workshop will be testimonies from beneficiaries themselves. Bhupal said individuals who have availed benefits under the guarantee schemes will share how the initiatives have positively impacted their daily lives.
“The programme will be attended by beneficiaries of all five guarantee schemes. They will speak about how these initiatives have helped improve their livelihoods and economic stability,” he said.
Officials believe that hearing directly from beneficiaries will help strengthen public awareness and reinforce transparency in the implementation process.
98.8% Implementation Achieved in District
Bhupal stated that Shivamogga district has achieved 98.8% progress in implementing the guarantee schemes, calling it one of the highest levels of execution in the State. He noted that eligible families are receiving benefits worth nearly ₹10,000 per month, significantly easing financial pressure on households.
The five guarantee schemes include Gruha Jyothi, which provides free electricity up to 200 units per month; Gruha Lakshmi, offering monthly financial assistance of ₹2,000 to women heads of households; Anna Bhagya, which ensures 10 kg of rice for eligible families; Shakti, allowing free travel for women on Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses; and Yuvanidhi, an unemployment allowance aimed at supporting youth.
“These schemes have brought visible and meaningful improvements in the lives of thousands of families across Shivamogga district,” Bhupal said.
Over ₹3,000 Crore Spent Since 2023
The district authority chairperson also highlighted the scale of public spending involved in rolling out the schemes. Since the Indian National Congress government assumed office in 2023, the State has spent ₹3,023.95 crore on implementing the guarantee schemes in Shivamogga district alone
Officials said the sustained investment reflects the government’s commitment to social welfare and inclusive growth, particularly for women, low-income families, and unemployed youth.
Our Thoughts
The upcoming workshop in Shivamogga underscores the State government’s emphasis on accountability and public engagement in welfare delivery. By placing beneficiaries at the centre of the discussion, the administration is not only highlighting progress but also reinforcing trust in governance. If sustained with transparency and efficiency, such large-scale social welfare programmes have the potential to create long-term social and economic resilience at the grassroots level.
