Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Smashes 171 as India Defeat UAE by 234 Runs in U19 Asia Cup Clash
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered one of the finest knocks of the U19 Asia Cup on Wednesday, scoring a sensational 171 off 95 balls against the UAE at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai. His innings powered India to an imposing 433/6 in 50 overs and set the foundation for a dominant 234-run victory.
India faced an early setback after losing captain Ayush Mhatre cheaply, but Sooryavanshi and Aaron George stabilised the innings with a strong partnership. After a cautious start, the left-hander accelerated rapidly, reaching his half-century in 30 balls and his century in 56 balls. His innings included powerful stroke play and record-breaking six-hitting.
During the 32nd over, a brief on-field exchange with UAE wicketkeeper Saleh Amin drew attention, but Sooryavanshi stayed focused and continued to attack. His tally of 14 sixes set a new U19 Asia Cup record, surpassing the previous mark set in 2017. He eventually crossed 150 and moved to 171 before being run out, registering the second-highest score by an Indian in Youth ODI cricket, behind Ambati Rayudu’s 177* in 2002.
India’s innings was supported by George and Vihaan Malhotra, both scoring 69, while Vedant Trivedi, Abhigyan Kundu and Kanishk Chouhan added valuable contributions.
Chasing 434, UAE managed 199/7, with Uddish Suri’s unbeaten 78 and Prithvi Madhu’s fifty providing resistance. India’s bowlers kept control throughout, sealing a comfortable win.
India U19 will next take on Pakistan U19 in a high-stakes group match on Sunday.
