SASTRA to Hold Thiruppavai–Thiruvempavai Recitation Competition in January 2026
Thanjavur/Kumbakonam: SASTRA, a deemed university, has announced that schools of winners of the Thiruppavai–Thiruvempavai Recitation Competition 2026 will receive books for their libraries, according to an official university release.
The competition will be conducted on January 11, 2026, from 10.35 a.m. at the Thirumalaisamudhram campus and the Srinivasa Ramanujam Centre of SASTRA in Kumbakonam. Schools located within a 15-kilometre radius of the two campuses are eligible to participate and may nominate two students each in the Junior category (below 12 years) and Senior category (above 12 years and below 18 years).
Participants will recite verses from Thiruppavai and Thiruvempavai. The first prize carries ₹3,000, the second prize ₹2,000, and the third prize ₹1,000. In addition, the schools from which prize winners hail will receive books for their libraries worth the respective prize amounts.
The competition will be conducted only if a minimum of ten participants take part in each category. A consolation prize of ₹500 will be awarded to participants who know and recite all verses but do not place in the top three. Registrations must be submitted through schools on or before January 5, 2026.
