New delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed deep appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued efforts to support a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Ukraine conflict. Speaking ahead of the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit at Hyderabad House, Putin described his discussions with PM Modi as “very informative and very useful,” underscoring the significance of the bilateral engagement.
“Thank you very much for yesterday's very good evening and our friendly yet highly informative conversation,” Putin said while seated beside PM Modi. He added that India had been given a detailed account of the developments in the Ukrainian theatre and Russia’s ongoing negotiations involving “several other partners, including the United States,” to explore avenues for a possible settlement.
The Russian President further acknowledged PM Modi’s “attention and efforts” toward helping resolve the crisis, calling it an important reflection of India’s growing diplomatic influence.
Highlighting the depth of the India-Russia partnership, Putin remarked that the bilateral relationship rests on “very profound content,” shaped by decades of trust and cooperation. “No matter what epithets we use, the essence is in the substance – and that substance is deep and meaningful. We value this greatly,” he said.
Putin emphasised that as both economies expand, opportunities for collaboration are also widening. He pointed to joint advancements in high-technology sectors, including aerospace, artificial intelligence, and civil aviation, while reaffirming robust cooperation in defence and military-technical domains. “We intend to move forward in all these areas,” he added.
The Russian leader also praised officials on both sides for their preparations ahead of the summit. “A number of significant documents have been prepared. We have the opportunity to discuss them further, and I am confident we will conclude today's work with a positive result,” he noted.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi warmly received President Putin at Hyderabad House, continuing the long-standing tradition of annual summits between the two nations. Both leaders are holding comprehensive talks aimed at strengthening trade, investment, energy partnerships, and strategic cooperation.
Putin’s schedule on the final day of his state visit remains packed. He will attend a business event at Bharat Mandapam, focusing on boosting commercial ties, and later be hosted by President Droupadi Murmu for a ceremonial banquet.
The visit comes at a pivotal moment in global geopolitics, further underscoring India’s role as a key diplomatic bridge between major powers.

Putin’s remarks signal yet another acknowledgment of India’s rising diplomatic weight amid global polarization. As New Delhi balances its partnerships with Moscow and Washington, PM Modi’s engagement with Putin underscores India’s effort to position itself as a mediator rather than a bystander. With strategic cooperation expanding in technology, defence, and energy, this summit reinforces the enduring India-Russia bond while revealing how both nations are recalibrating their roles in an increasingly divided world.
