Dalit Organisations to Hold Silent March in Hubballi on January 5
Hubballi: Dalit organisations have announced a silent march on January 5 to condemn the honour killing of Manya Doddamani in Inam Veerapur village of Hubballi taluk. The protest is expected to see participation from thousands of activists, highlighting growing concern over caste-based violence in Karnataka, as reported by TheTrendingPeople.com.
Addressing a press conference in Hubballi on Monday, Internal Reservation Agitation Committee member B.R. Bhaskar Prasad said participants would wear black armbands during the silent procession. The march will begin from Siddharoodha Math and culminate in a public meeting at Nehru Maidan, where an appeal will be made to society to prevent such incidents.
Bhaskar Prasad alleged that the incident reflected the failure of the State government, district administration and the Social Welfare Department in protecting Dalits. He clarified that the rally was not aimed at projecting party politics or fuelling caste divisions and appealed to people across communities to participate. Traders were also urged to voluntarily close establishments in solidarity.
The organisers demanded referral of the case to a fast-track special court or judicial inquiry, enactment of an anti-honour killing law, strict punishment for the accused, and compensation and protection for the victim’s family. They also sought a government job for Vivekanand Doddamani and allotment of 10 acres of land.
Our Final Thoughts
The planned silent march reflects collective anger and grief while seeking accountability, justice and long-term legal safeguards to prevent honour killings and protect vulnerable communities.
