BBC Delays Broadcast of Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home Documentary After Rock Legend’s Death
London, Aug 19 – The highly anticipated BBC documentary Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, which chronicles the final years of the Black Sabbath frontman, has been postponed following the wishes of the late rock icon’s family.
The film, originally scheduled to air on BBC One, was pulled from the broadcaster’s schedule shortly before its planned release.
“Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film,” a BBC spokesperson said. “The new transmission date will be confirmed shortly.”
A Final Chapter of a Rock Legend
The documentary, produced by Expectation TV, was filmed over the past three years and billed as a “moving and inspirational account” of Osbourne’s final chapter. It features candid interviews with Ozzy himself, his wife Sharon, and children Jack and Kelly, alongside archival footage of his journey back to the U.K. after 25 years in Los Angeles.
According to its official synopsis, the film offers an intimate look at “the final three years of Ozzy Osbourne’s life as he and Sharon plan a return home and prepare for the ultimate farewell gig.”
Ozzy’s Last Performance
Osbourne, known to millions as the “Prince of Darkness,” died on July 22 at the age of 76, just 17 days after his final performance in his hometown of Birmingham.
The farewell concert, titled Back to the Beginning, was a historic event featuring not only Osbourne and Black Sabbath but also tribute performances from some of the biggest names in rock and metal, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, and Alice in Chains.
Despite his long battle with Parkinson’s disease and complications from spinal injuries, Osbourne performed seated but otherwise appeared in good spirits.
A Legacy Beyond Heavy Metal
With a career spanning over five decades, Ozzy Osbourne redefined heavy metal both as Black Sabbath’s frontman and through his solo work. His influence stretched across generations, inspiring countless musicians and fans worldwide.
The BBC says a revised air date for Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home will be announced soon.
