Devotion Meets Discipline: Pilgrimages Reflect India’s Soul, Says PM Modi
New Delhi (TTP)- In the latest episode of his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt wishes to all those undertaking religious yatras across the country. Speaking in the 123rd edition of the programme on Sunday, Modi emphasized the deep spiritual significance of these journeys, while applauding the volunteers and community members who ensure the comfort and safety of millions of pilgrims.
“The feeling that ‘we have been called’ is the soul of every yatra,” said Modi. “These pilgrimages are a way to discipline the body, purify the heart, and deepen bonds of mutual love and brotherhood.”
Pilgrimage as Service: Volunteers Honoured
PM Modi highlighted the often-overlooked aspect of service (Seva) that characterizes India’s religious yatras. He noted that more people contribute to helping the yatris than the number of pilgrims themselves.
“From free food stalls and water points to medical camps and night shelters, thousands offer their services without expecting anything in return,” he said. “This is true devotion.”
He further added that this spirit of service is the true strength of India’s spiritual ecosystem and reflects the nation’s collective conscience.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Returns After Hiatus
One of the key highlights of Modi’s address was the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a sacred journey considered the spiritual center in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism alike.
“Kailash is not just a destination. It is a call of the divine,” Modi remarked.
The pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar had been suspended in previous years due to geopolitical and pandemic-related challenges. Its return marks a significant moment for devotees across the globe.
July Yatras: Amarnath and Sawan
PM Modi also reminded citizens that the Amarnath Yatra is set to begin on July 3, coinciding with the arrival of the auspicious month of Sawan. Both these spiritual events attract lakhs of devotees from across the country and beyond.
“Whether it is Odisha’s Rath Yatra or Amarnath in Kashmir, Gujarat’s pilgrimages or Tamil Nadu’s temple festivals, India’s spiritual calendar is a celebration of unity in diversity,” he noted.
Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat in Action
Highlighting the national unity that unfolds during these yatras, the Prime Minister said that from north to south and east to west, these events showcase the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’.
“Pilgrimages are not just personal; they are national. They remind us that our strength lies in our diversity and our shared devotion,” he said.
PM’s Closing Message to Devotees
In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister offered blessings and encouragement:
“To all the devotees undertaking yatras, I offer my best wishes. And to all those working behind the scenes to make these journeys possible—you are the true heroes of India’s spiritual tradition.”
