New Delhi (The Trending People), May 9: In a major revelation during the ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, two senior women officers of the Indian Armed Forces disclosed that Pakistan fired around 300 to 400 drones on the intervening nights of May 8 and 9. These drones reportedly targeted 36 different locations along India’s western border.
The information was shared by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh during a special press briefing held by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Drones Possibly Made in Turkey
According to the officers, the drones used in the attacks are believed to be Turkish-made, likely the Asisguard Songar drones. However, this claim is still under investigation. Forensic teams are currently examining the wreckage to confirm the origin of the unmanned aerial vehicles.
Purpose: Infiltration and Intelligence Gathering
The officers stated that the large-scale drone intrusion appeared to be an attempt by the Pakistan Army to test India’s air defence systems, gather intelligence, and possibly carry out infiltration. Despite the scale of the attack, India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted and neutralised the threats, they said.
Multiple Targets, Including Bhatinda Military Station
Pakistan reportedly targeted several Indian cities and military sites using both drones and missiles. However, none of the attacks caused significant damage. One such drone, an armed UAV, attempted to strike the Bhatinda military station, but it was detected and taken down in time, according to Wing Commander Singh.
Colonel Qureshi also reported that Pakistan violated Indian airspace multiple times along the western border on the night of May 7 and 8, firing heavy-calibre weapons across the Line of Control (LoC). She confirmed that India responded using both kinetic and non-kinetic measures, successfully thwarting all hostile actions.
India's Response: Armed Drone Strikes
In retaliation to Pakistan’s aggression, India carried out armed drone strikes on four air defence (AD) sites located inside Pakistan. One of these Indian drones reportedly destroyed an air defence radar, demonstrating India’s advanced targeting capabilities.
This marks a significant escalation in the conflict, as both countries are now engaging with high-tech military tools including AI-guided drones and precision-strike systems.
