Meta to Launch Two New AI Features on WhatsApp: Message Summaries and Custom Wallpapers
New Delhi (The Trending People), May 9: Meta is working on two new artificial intelligence (AI) features for WhatsApp that aim to make the messaging experience smarter and more personal. These upcoming tools were recently spotted in the beta version of the app and are part of Meta’s broader strategy to bring AI into its popular services.
1. “Summarise with Meta AI” to Catch Up on Missed Chats
The first feature under development is called “Summarise with Meta AI.” It’s designed to help users quickly understand what they missed in a chat, especially in large group conversations or busy broadcast channels.
When users receive a high number of unread messages, a new button will appear in the chat. Tapping on “Summarise with Meta AI” will give a quick summary of the recent conversation, making it easier to catch up without scrolling through dozens of messages.
This feature is currently being tested on WhatsApp’s Android app and is expected to roll out in a future update. However, Meta has not given an official release date yet.
Despite the use of AI, Meta says the feature will still maintain end-to-end encryption, ensuring user privacy and data security remain protected.
2. AI-Generated Wallpapers for Chat Personalisation
The second upcoming feature will give WhatsApp users a creative new way to personalise their chats. Called “Create with AI,” this tool allows users to generate custom chat wallpapers using simple text prompts.
Users can describe what kind of background they want — for example, “sunset on a beach” or “minimalist dark theme” — and the AI will create wallpaper options to match. They can also refine their descriptions to explore different styles and generate new results until they find a look they like.
This AI wallpaper generator will be available in the Wallpaper settings menu, helping users customise their chats with more creativity and control than ever before.
Part of Meta’s Bigger AI Push
These two new features reflect Meta’s ongoing efforts to use AI to improve its apps, making them more useful and user-friendly. WhatsApp, once known only for basic messaging, is now becoming a more intelligent and customisable platform.
With tools like smart summaries and AI-generated visuals, Meta is showing how artificial intelligence can help users better manage their digital lives — whether it’s by saving time or expressing their personal style.
