New Delhi (The Trending People), May 9: As military tensions between India and Pakistan continue to rise, the Indian film and entertainment industry is beginning to feel the impact. Production houses, actors, and event organizers are rescheduling or cancelling key events and releases, showing solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces during these uncertain times.
Film Releases Postponed or Shifted to OTT
Several upcoming film projects have already been affected. Yesterday, the team behind Rajkummar Rao’s film Bhool Chuk Maaf announced that the movie would skip its theatrical release and instead premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video on May 16. The film was originally scheduled to release in cinemas today, May 9.
Kamal Haasan Postpones Audio Launch of Thug Life
Veteran actor Kamal Haasan today issued an official statement postponing the audio launch of his much-awaited film Thug Life, which was earlier scheduled for May 16. In his statement, Kamal expressed that the country’s well-being takes precedence over entertainment:
“Art can wait. India comes first,” he said.
The new date for the audio launch will be announced once the situation improves.
Press Events Called Off
Meanwhile, a press meet for actress Samantha’s debut production, titled Subham, was cancelled just hours before it was scheduled to take place this evening. Industry insiders believe that more such cancellations and postponements are likely in the days to come, depending on how the geopolitical situation evolves.
IPL 2025 Suspended Indefinitely
Adding to the disruptions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 tournament has been suspended indefinitely. The decision was made in response to the volatile situation on the border and to avoid the risks associated with large public gatherings.
The BCCI said in its official statement that it stands in full support of the Indian government and the Armed Forces during this critical time.
Entertainment Industry on Standby
The current conflict has prompted a wider pause across India’s entertainment sectors. While no official bans or restrictions have been issued, many in the industry are choosing to step back out of respect and national solidarity. If the conflict continues, it is likely that further film promotions, music launches, and sporting events may be postponed or cancelled altogether.
