Govt Rejects LPG Booking Rule Change Rumours, Assures Adequate Fuel Supply
New Delhi: The Centre on Wednesday dismissed reports claiming changes in LPG refill booking timelines, calling them “misleading and unfounded,” and assured citizens that there is no shortage of cooking gas or fuel across the country.
The clarification comes after several media reports and social media posts suggested revised booking intervals for LPG refills. These claims indicated new timelines such as 45 days for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries, 25 days for single-cylinder users, and 35 days for double-cylinder consumers.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) categorically denied any such revisions. It stated that LPG refill booking rules remain unchanged.
As per current norms, consumers can book LPG refills after 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas, regardless of connection type. The ministry urged people not to believe or spread misinformation and advised against panic booking.
Oil Companies Clarify Supply Position
State-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) also dismissed rumours of petrol and diesel shortages. The company said there is no fuel scarcity and reiterated that India continues to be a net exporter of petrol and diesel.
Officials further confirmed that domestic refineries are operating at high capacity, with sufficient crude oil inventories. LPG production has also increased, ensuring stable supply nationwide.
The government highlighted that ships carrying crude oil and LPG have been arriving from multiple countries, strengthening supply chains. Additionally, seven empowered groups of officials have been formed to monitor the impact of the Iran conflict on key sectors, including oil, gas, fertilisers, and inflation.
The Centre’s clarification aims to curb misinformation and reassure citizens about uninterrupted fuel availability, even as global geopolitical tensions continue to influence energy markets.
Our Final Thoughts
In times of global uncertainty, misinformation can quickly trigger panic among consumers. The government’s swift response to clarify LPG booking rules and fuel availability is crucial in maintaining stability. While international developments may impact supply chains, India’s current preparedness — including strong refinery output and diversified imports — suggests that there is no immediate cause for concern. Clear communication will remain key in preventing unnecessary disruptions and ensuring public confidence.
