Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Rannta’s ‘Accused’ to Premiere on Netflix This February
MUMBAI — The world of psychological thrillers is set to get a gripping new addition as Accused, directed by Anubhuti Kashyap, prepares for its exclusive digital premiere. Starring the powerhouse Konkona Sen Sharma alongside rising star Pratibha Rannta, the film is scheduled to stream on Netflix starting February 27.
Produced by Dharma Productions, the narrative promises a deep dive into the complexities of human behavior, moral ambiguity, and the fragile nature of truth.
A Narrative of Doubt and Shifted Perspectives
Accused centers on a celebrated doctor based in London whose life, built on years of professional excellence and personal stability, begins to crumble after she is hit with an accusation of sexual misconduct. The film is unique in its approach, placing a woman at the center of a narrative typically explored through a different lens.
“Accused is the kind of story that stays with you because it refuses to simplify human behavior or moral conflict,” shared Team Accused. “Anubhuti has crafted a deeply nuanced film that places women at the center of a narrative we rarely explore, one where power, perception, and belief are constantly shifting.”
As public opinion hardens and scrutiny intensifies, the film explores how quickly perception can override facts when certainty is out of reach. It unfolds essentially as one woman’s word against another, forcing the audience to sit with discomfort and doubt.
Powerhouse Performances: Konkona and Pratibha
The film marks a significant collaboration between two generations of talent. Konkona Sen Sharma, a National Film Award winner known for her evocative roles in films like Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Page 3, and Wake Up Sid, brings her trademark depth to the lead role.
Opposite her is Pratibha Rannta, who recently garnered widespread acclaim for her performance in the comedy-drama Laapataa Ladies. In Accused, their relationship is tested not just by the legalities of the accusation, but by the creeping shadows of doubt.
Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, Director of Original Films at Netflix India, stated, “Accused is a meaningful, emotionally resonant film that explores truth, belief, and the personal consequences of an accusation. Anubhuti Kashyap’s sensitivity and restraint add depth to a powerful subject.”
