WPL 2026: Harleen Deol Leads UP Warriorz to First Win Against Mumbai Indians
Navi Mumbai: Harleen Deol delivered a strong response to being retired out in the previous game, scoring an unbeaten 64 off 39 balls as UP Warriorz defeated defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 at the DY Patil Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 162, UP Warriorz completed the chase comfortably with seven wickets in hand, registering their first win of the season after three losses. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, suffered their second defeat in as many matches.
Sciver-Brunt Anchors Mumbai’s Innings
Earlier, Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored for Mumbai Indians with a composed 65 off 43 balls, guiding the side to 161 for five after a sluggish start. Openers Amanjot Kaur and G Kamalimi struggled against spin as Mumbai reached just 54 for two at the halfway stage.
Sciver-Brunt accelerated in the latter half, with Mumbai scoring 107 runs in the final 10 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur chipped in with 16, while Nicola Carey provided support at the death.
Harleen Takes Charge in the Chase
UP Warriorz began steadily before Harleen Deol took control in the middle overs. She reached her half-century in the 15th over and punished Mumbai’s bowlers with timely boundaries. Chloe Tryon’s unbeaten 27 off 11 balls ensured a smooth finish to the chase.
Our Thoughts
Harleen Deol’s knock under pressure could be a turning point for UP Warriorz’s campaign. After early setbacks, the win restores momentum and confidence, while Mumbai Indians will need to reassess their middle-overs strategy going forward.
