MUMBAI: A day after the BJP–Shiv Sena Mahayuti alliance registered a sweeping victory in Maharashtra’s municipal corporation elections, all elected corporators of the have been called to a five-star hotel in Mumbai’s Bandra area for a crucial meeting on Saturday (January 17, 2026). Party sources said the corporators are likely to be kept together until the mayoral choices across key civic bodies are finalised.
The move comes amid intense post-poll deliberations within the ruling alliance as it prepares to stake claim to mayoral posts in multiple municipal corporations, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Sources told The Hindu that the leadership wants to ensure unity and prevent any cross-voting during the selection process.

On Friday, Shinde thanked voters for what he described as the Mahayuti’s “stellar performance,” saying the results reflected public confidence in the State government’s development-focused agenda. He asserted that mayoral posts in Mumbai and other municipal corporations would go to Mahayuti nominees.
“The Shiv Sena–BJP alliance has secured a decisive mandate not only in Thane but also in Mumbai and other civic bodies. The mayor in Mumbai and in municipal corporations across the State will be from the Mahayuti,” Shinde said, adding that the results signalled a pro-Mahayuti sentiment across Maharashtra.
Seat-Sharing Talks and Post-Poll Strategy
The post-poll consolidation follows tough seat-sharing negotiations ahead of the BMC elections. Shinde had initially sought 100 of the 227 seats for his party during talks with the BJP. After a week of negotiations, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) contested 90 seats, eventually winning 29.
Party insiders say the decision to house corporators together is a standard post-election strategy aimed at maintaining cohesion during sensitive negotiations, particularly as mayoral selections approach in Mumbai and other urban bodies.
