Is The Raja Saab Prabhas’ Biggest Flop? Box Office Loss Compared With Adipurush, Radhe Shyam, Saaho
The year 2026 began with high expectations for Prabhas as The Raja Saab marked his return to a lighter, mass-friendly avatar through a horror-comedy. Marketed as the first pan-India release of the year, the film opened big on January 9 but failed to sustain momentum. Less than two weeks later, it is now being labelled one of the biggest box office disasters of recent times
The Raja Saab’s Box Office Performance
Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab released on nearly 35,000 screens worldwide. Powered by Prabhas’ star value, the film earned around ₹100 crore gross globally on day one. However, extremely poor word of mouth caused a sharp drop from day two onwards.
After 11 days, the film has collected roughly ₹141 crore net in India and ₹203 crore gross worldwide. Trade estimates suggest its global net collections will struggle to cross ₹200 crore. With a reported landing cost of ₹350 crore, The Raja Saab is expected to incur losses of around ₹160–170 crore, placing it among the biggest box office bombs of Prabhas’ career.
Is It His Biggest Flop?
Despite the heavy losses, The Raja Saab is not Prabhas’ biggest failure. That distinction still belongs to Adipurush, which reportedly lost around ₹240 crore globally. Radhe Shyam also fared worse, with an estimated ₹180 crore loss. Saaho, while underperforming, managed to recover some ground in Hindi markets.
The Road Ahead
Prabhas’ career revival came through Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD, both of which delivered solid profits. His upcoming films Spirit and Fauzi now carry the weight of restoring consistency.
Our Thoughts
The Raja Saab underlines a recurring issue in Prabhas’ career — massive openings cannot compensate for weak content. While his star power remains unmatched, audience expectations have clearly evolved. Moving forward, script strength and genre clarity will matter far more than scale. Prabhas’ future success depends on choosing conviction-driven projects rather than relying solely on pre-release hype.
