shan Kishan Rewrites T20 History as Jharkhand Win Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Mumbai: Jharkhand captain Ishan Kishan delivered a historic performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, leading his side to a 69-run victory over Haryana at the MCA Stadium on Thursday night. Kishan smashed a blistering 101 off just 49 balls, hitting 10 sixes and rewriting multiple T20 records in the process.
With that knock, Kishan finished the tournament with a record 33 sixes, becoming the wicketkeeper-captain with the most sixes in any T20 competition globally. He surpassed previous marks held by MS Dhoni and Nicholas Pooran, both of whom had hit 30 sixes in a single T20 tournament.
Kishan also registered his fifth T20 century as a designated wicketkeeper, moving past Sanju Samson and equalling Kamran Akmal’s global tally. Only Quinton de Kock has more centuries in this category. His innings powered Jharkhand to a massive total of 262, built on a 177-run partnership with Kumar Kushagra, who scored 81 off 38 balls.
The 27-year-old ended the season with 517 runs at a strike rate of 197.32, the highest by any captain or wicketkeeper in a single SMAT edition. The win marked Jharkhand’s second senior domestic title and their first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph.
Our Final Thoughts
Ishan Kishan’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign stands out as one of the most dominant performances in Indian domestic T20 history. His blend of power, consistency and leadership has not only delivered Jharkhand a historic title but also reinforced his credentials as a top-tier T20 batter. With selectors closely watching domestic performances, Kishan’s record-breaking run sends a strong message ahead of upcoming international and franchise opportunities.
