IRCTC Website Uptime Improves to 99.98% This Fiscal, Railways Enhances Tech and Safety Measures
The IRCTC website recorded an uptime of 99.98 per cent during April–October this fiscal, improving from 99.86 per cent in the same period last year. The data was shared in Parliament on Wednesday, highlighting the impact of new administrative and technological measures taken by Indian Railways to modernise its systems.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that continuous upgrades have helped improve the efficiency of ticket booking services, which now account for more than 87 per cent of all reserved railway tickets in India.
Stronger Administrative Controls for User Safety
To reduce misuse of the IRCTC platform, Railways has introduced new administrative steps such as deactivation of suspicious user IDs, revalidation of existing IDs and filing complaints on the National Cyber Crime Portal for fraudulent bookings.
These measures aim to maintain transparency in ticketing and prevent unauthorised activity during peak booking hours.
Advanced System Improvements to Boost Performance
The Railways Minister informed that several technological upgrades have been carried out this year. These include the deployment of high-end validation checks, anti-BOT applications, and leading Content Delivery Network (CDN) technology.
The IRCTC website and mobile app function on an API-based system that transfers minimal text data between the user device and servers. This design improves speed and makes the platform accessible even in rural regions with slower connectivity.
Regular third-party audits are also being conducted to strengthen the platform’s reliability and security.
Despite the high uptime, some users still report issues related to failed transactions or delayed refunds. These complaints are monitored regularly to ensure faster resolution.
Railways Improves Food Quality and Monitoring
Indian Railways, which serves over 58 crore meals every year, has also implemented strict measures to improve food safety and hygiene. Only branded raw materials are used, and CCTV cameras have been installed in base kitchens for better monitoring.
Food Safety Supervisors oversee hygiene practices, while IRCTC staff are deployed onboard to check catering services. QR codes on food packets now allow passengers to view details such as the kitchen of origin and packaging date.
Over the past four years, a fine of ₹2.8 crore has been imposed based on verified food-related complaints.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople.com
The improvement in IRCTC’s website uptime and the railways’ focus on modernisation show a clear move toward more reliable digital services. With advanced technology, stronger security measures and better food quality monitoring, Indian Railways aims to ensure a smoother experience for millions of daily passengers. Continued upgrades will remain crucial as demand for online ticketing and onboard services rises every year.
