Renowned singer-composer Papon marked his 49th birthday in an unusual yet deeply meaningful way — by choosing to spend the day immersed in music rather than stepping away for a break. The singer shared that creating and performing remains his greatest source of joy, and celebrating while working feels natural to him.
Papon said that music continues to be the most fulfilling part of his life, and dedicating his birthday to it felt like the truest expression of who he is. Fresh from the successful Sham-E-Mehfil 2025 tour, he is currently in the final stages of his upcoming ghazal album, a project he describes as personal, soulful and creatively energising.
Even while staying committed to work, Papon noted that he would still spend a little time with his family, calling them his grounding force. For him, balancing emotional connection and artistic dedication defines what a celebration should feel like at this stage of his life.
The upcoming album features original compositions paired with contemporary poetry, reflecting his continued evolution as an artist. Known for bringing emotional depth and expressive texture to his performances, Papon’s latest work aims to revive and reinterpret the ghazal tradition for newer audiences while staying true to its classic sentiment.
Papon’s musical journey began in 1998 with the Assamese song “Nasaba Sokule” from the album Snigdha Junak. He released his first full album Junaki Raati in 2004, establishing himself as a unique voice in regional music before transitioning into mainstream cinema.
His Bollywood debut came in 2006 with “Om Mantra” from Strings – Bound by Faith, but it was “Jiyein Kyun” from Dum Maro Dum in 2011 that brought him widespread attention. Over the years, he has delivered memorable tracks including “Lakeerein”, “Sun Ri Bavli”, “Moh Moh Ke Dhaage”, “Humnava” and “Bulleya”, earning acclaim for both playback singing and live performances.
With his new ghazal album nearing release and audiences responding strongly to his recent tour, Papon enters his 50th year with creative momentum, emotional clarity and a fan base eager for more. His decision to celebrate through music reflects not just passion but a career built on consistency, craft and deep connection with listeners.
