Bihar Transfers ₹10,000 Each to 10 Lakh Jeevika Didis Under CM Women Employment Scheme
The Bihar government on Friday transferred ₹10,000 each to 10 lakh Jeevika Didis under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar attended the event and released the funds through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
A special programme was held at the Chief Minister’s residence, where Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, senior officials and representatives from different departments were present.
Background
According to officials, the latest instalment includes 9.5 lakh rural women and 50,000 urban women. All beneficiaries are members of Jeevika self-help groups, which have been receiving training and support to start income-generating activities.
The state government said that 1.5 crore women have so far received assistance under this scheme, with each woman receiving ₹10,000. The scheme aims to help women begin small businesses and strengthen their economic independence.
The application process was completed in two phases. Urban women applied online, while rural women submitted forms both offline and online at the Panchayat level. Priority was given to women who were already active in Jeevika programmes.
The government has stated that the scheme is helping women improve their livelihoods, become self-reliant and participate more actively in local economic activities. The financial support is expected to boost small-scale businesses across rural and urban areas.
The scheme was announced on August 29 and implemented within a month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched it formally on September 26, transferring the first instalment to 75 lakh women. The second instalment was released on October 3, when Nitish Kumar transferred funds to 25 lakh women under the same programme.
Opposition Reaction
Opposition parties have alleged that the government released cash transfers during the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) period of the Bihar Assembly election. They claim that the financial benefits were an attempt to influence voters.
Opposition leaders also accused the Centre of violating MCC guidelines by supporting the scheme during the election period, adding that such transfers raise questions about fairness and neutrality.
What’s Next
Officials said that the next round of applications will open after the current cycle is reviewed. The government plans to continue supporting women linked with Jeevika groups, with a focus on helping more women become financially independent through micro-businesses.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople.com
The latest transfer under the Women Employment Scheme shows how financial support can strengthen women’s economic participation in Bihar. With Jeevika self-help groups already playing an important role in rural development, this assistance gives many women a chance to start small ventures and contribute to their household income. While the opposition has raised questions about the timing of the transfers, the broader aim of the programme remains clear—empowering women through stable and direct financial support. As the scheme continues, it will be important to ensure transparency, accountability and equal access for all eligible beneficiaries.
