Uttar Pradesh Joins Hands with Patanjali to Transform Cow Shelters into Rural Industry Hubs
Lucknow | August 17, 2025 – In a major push for rural economy and sustainable farming, the Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Commission has partnered with Patanjali Yogpeeth to promote cow protection, Panchgavya products, natural farming, and biogas production across the state.
The agreement was finalized after discussions between Commission Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta and Patanjali Co-Founder Acharya Balkrishna, aligning with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of making the cow a central element in village development.
From Conservation to Rural Industry
Under this collaboration, cow shelters will no longer remain only centres of animal conservation. Instead, they will be developed into rural industry hubs, producing Panchgavya-based products, organic fertilizers, and biogas. According to officials, this shift will provide new livelihood opportunities in villages.
Patanjali has assured full technical support for the initiative, including training, product formulation, quality control, certification, and licensing. Baba Ramdev is also expected to visit Uttar Pradesh soon to meet CM Yogi Adityanath and finalize the detailed roadmap.
Model Cow Shelters in All 75 Districts
Dr. Anurag Srivastava, OSD of the Gau Seva Commission, said that two to 10 cow shelters in each of the state’s 75 districts will be developed as large model centres. These shelters will feature open sheds, fencing, and security systems to ensure free movement and safety of cows.
The project will also integrate geo-fencing, cow tagging, photo mapping, and fodder inventory tracking, making shelters more efficient and transparent.
Rural Employment & Farmers’ Benefits
A key highlight of the programme is its employment potential. Villagers will be engaged in cow urine collection and product sales under a 50% commission model, ensuring income generation at the grassroots level.
Additionally, every village will receive access to natural farming inputs such as neem, cow urine, and vermicompost. These organic alternatives are expected to reduce farmers’ input costs, improve soil fertility, and strengthen environmental sustainability.
Aligning with CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision
CM Yogi Adityanath has long emphasized the importance of the cow in India’s cultural and rural landscape. This initiative reflects his belief that the cow can play a pivotal role in boosting rural economy, natural farming, and eco-friendly energy production.
If successful, the model could turn Uttar Pradesh into a leader in cow-based rural industries, serving as an example for other states.
