Halagali: Director Sukesh Nayak Confirms 40% Shoot Complete, Epic Rebellion Saga to Release in Two Parts
Director Sukesh Nayak Shares Major Update on Halagali
Bengaluru, Aug 17 (TheTrendingPeople.com):
Director Sukesh Nayak has revealed that nearly 40 per cent of the shooting for his ambitious historical drama Halagali has already been completed. The film, which features Daali Dhananjaya and Sapthami Gowda in lead roles, narrates the story of the Halagali rebellion of 1857, a lesser-known chapter in India’s struggle against British rule.
“About 40 per cent of the shooting has been completed. This is not a story that can be told in one part. There is a great history behind this story. That is why we are bringing it in two parts. This film will give the audience a great theatrical experience,” Nayak told mediapersons, adding that the next schedule would begin by the end of September and the remaining portions would be wrapped up by March 2026.
A Two-Part Pan-Indian Epic
The makers confirmed that Halagali will release in two parts, reflecting the depth and scale of the narrative. The film is being shot in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi, making it a true Pan-Indian project.
Presented by Yarlagadda Lakshmi Srinivas and produced by Kalyan Chakravarthy Dhulipala, the film aims to recreate a forgotten rebellion that holds significant importance in Karnataka’s cultural and historical memory.
Untold Story of the Halagali Rebellion
The film revolves around the Bedars of Halagali, hunters and soldiers who rose in defiance against the British after they were ordered to surrender their arms. This rebellion, which took place in 1857, paralleled the First War of Independence but remained largely undocumented in mainstream narratives.
Producer Kalyan Chakravarthy Dhulipala highlighted the research that went into shaping the story:
“Halagali is a chapter in history. Their fight against the British is memorable. A lot of research was done about this. While researching about this film, we got goosebumps,” he said.
Cast Reactions: Pride and Passion
Lead actor Daali Dhananjaya expressed his pride in being part of the project:
“Halagali is an untold story. I feel proud to be a part of this movie. Halagali is a great emotion in Karnataka. Producer Kalyan and director Sukesh are making this project with a lot of passion. As soon as I heard the story, I felt like being a part of this project.”
The film also stars B Suresh, Sharath Lohithashva, Veena Sundar, Beeradar, Shivamani, Malathi Sudheer, Balaraj Vaadi, Yamuna Srinidhi Shetty, Ananya, and Prathik Shetty, bringing together an ensemble cast to portray this forgotten rebellion.
Why Halagali Matters
The project goes beyond cinema—it revives a historical legacy that remains unknown to many Indians. By bringing the story of the Halagali Bedars to the big screen, the film is expected to spark renewed discussion about regional contributions to India’s freedom struggle.
For Karnataka, this film represents cultural pride, while at the national level, it fills a gap in the broader narrative of resistance against colonial rule.
TheTrendingPeople.com’s Final Take
With nearly half the film already completed and an ambitious two-part release on the horizon, Halagali is shaping up to be more than just a movie—it is a historical statement. Director Sukesh Nayak, backed by producer Kalyan Chakravarthy and lead actor Daali Dhananjaya, appears determined to create a cinematic spectacle that educates, inspires, and entertains.
If executed with the same passion its makers speak of, Halagali could well become one of the most significant Pan-Indian historical dramas of the decade.
