Mumbai, Aug 13 (TheTrendingPeople) — Actress Bhumi Pednekar, recently seen in the streaming series The Royals, has raised her voice against the recent Supreme Court directive allowing the relocation of over three lakh street dogs in Delhi to shelters. The actress took to Instagram on Wednesday to share heartfelt images and videos of her pet dog Bruno, recounting his traumatic past and recovery, while urging for humane and sustainable solutions to street dog issues.
Bhumi revealed that Bruno came into her life at just four months old after being rescued by animal welfare group Yoda Mumbai. “When they found him, he was battered and badly hurt — his jaw dislocated, tail burnt — yet his spirit was that of a warrior,” she wrote. The injuries, she said, were inflicted by children, which she believes points to a larger societal failure in teaching empathy, coexistence, and kindness.
Describing Bruno as “intelligent, kind, playful, nurturing, protective yet gentle,” the actress drew parallels between his story and the fate of countless stray dogs facing displacement. She noted that for decades, street dog feeders have acted as caregivers — providing food, treating wounds, and funding sterilisation and vaccinations out of their own pockets.
Bhumi argued that mass removal is not the answer and instead called for stronger reforms, including large-scale sterilisation drives, regular vaccination programmes, and community-led feeding and monitoring initiatives.
Highlighting the historical and cultural significance of the Indian Pariah dog, she said these animals have been part of India’s heritage for over 4,500 years, with references in the Rig Veda, the Mahabharata, and the Upanishads symbolising loyalty, dharma, companionship, and protection.
“Removing them en masse will not solve the root issues; it will only create more cruelty and displacement,” she wrote. “May there be empathy. May there be peace. May justice prevail.”

Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople.com:
Bhumi Pednekar’s appeal adds to growing calls for compassion and reform in India’s approach to street dogs. As policymakers debate solutions, the challenge remains to balance public safety with the rights and dignity of these animals — a balance that demands empathy as much as enforcement.
