Dolly Chawla Reveals Why Her Role in Tumm Se Tumm Tak Is Her Most Challenging Yet
Mumbai, July 30 – Popular television actress Dolly Chawla is stepping into new terrain with her latest role as Meera in Zee TV’s daily drama Tumm Se Tumm Tak. Known for her previous impactful performances, Chawla is now embracing a character that’s poles apart from her real-life personality—a bold move that’s both testing and thrilling for the actress.
“Meera Is Nothing Like Me” – Chawla on Playing a Jealous, Bossy Assistant
Chawla, who has earned praise for her versatility in past roles, described Meera as a complex and emotionally intense character.
“I’m playing Meera, who handles everything related to Arya—his office, food, medicines, and more. She doesn’t like it when someone else gets close to Arya or when he gives them importance. Now that Anu has joined the office, Meera is getting jealous. She doesn’t listen to anyone except her boss,” she revealed.
Despite the character's possessiveness and authoritarian tone, Chawla believes viewers will connect with Meera—whether they love or hate her.
“People have loved me in my previous work, and I hope they give the same love to Meera, even if they hate her,” she added. “Every character should be challenging—only then do you truly enjoy playing it. This character is very different from my real-life personality, and that’s what makes it exciting.”
Why She Said Yes to Tumm Se Tumm Tak
For Chawla, signing on for Tumm Se Tumm Tak was a no-brainer, especially after being approached by a production house she deeply respects.
“When I got a call from the production house, I was very excited. This production house feels like family to me, and I love them. When they briefed me about the character of Meera, I was thrilled,” she said.
She was further intrigued to learn that the show is already popular in multiple languages.
“They also mentioned that this show already exists in seven languages, so there’s definitely pressure to deliver a strong performance,” Chawla explained. “It’s great news that the show is now being made in Hindi. I’ve done negative roles before, but this one is especially challenging—Meera is authoritative and bossy, which makes her quite different.”
A Show That Breaks Age Norms: “Age Is Just a Number”
Tumm Se Tumm Tak dives deep into the emotional journey of Arya and Anu, a couple facing societal judgment due to their age difference. Chawla says the storyline reflects modern relationships where age gaps are no longer taboo.
“If you look at relationships in real life, age gaps do exist. Love is a gradual process. Even if there’s an age gap, you still take your time to assess whether the person is right for you or not,” she said. “That’s exactly how it is for Anu and Arya. The story has layers—things unfold step by step. Age is just a number.”
