Fire Erupts on Set of Anupamaa in Goregaon, Mumbai — No Injuries Reported
Mumbai, June 23, 2025 —A fire broke out early Monday morning on the set of Star Plus’ top-rated television show Anupamaa in Film City, Goregaon, prompting a swift emergency response. Producer Rajan Shahi, in an official statement, confirmed that no casualties were reported and all crew and staff are safe.
What Happened?
- The fire reportedly started around 5 AM, approximately two hours before the scheduled call time of 7 AM.
- At the time, no filming was underway, and main power lights were turned off.
- Only security personnel and some set staff were present; no actors or main crew were on location.
- Firefighters were able to control the blaze quickly, but the set suffered extensive damage.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) confirmed via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle that the fire completely gutted the set, and called for a high-level investigation into the cause of the incident.
Producer Rajan Shahi’s Statement
Producer Rajan Shahi, who heads Directors Kut Production, issued a detailed statement addressing the incident:
“This is to inform everyone about an unfortunate incident that took place early this morning on the sets of Anupamaa. A fire broke out, but by God’s grace, there were no casualties… At the time of the incident, no unit members were present on set — only the security personnel and set staff were there, who are all safe.”
Shahi also confirmed that no animals were harmed and appropriate safety protocols had been followed.
He further clarified:
“The fire department and all concerned authorities are currently investigating the reason, especially since there was no shooting on the set and the main power lights were turned off. The exact cause of the fire is still being determined.”
Appeal to Avoid Rumors
The statement also addressed the circulation of unverified claims and speculation:
“Some gossip mongers are attempting to spread false news and misleading information. We sincerely request everyone not to believe in any rumours or unverified stories. Please wait for official and confirmed updates from our side.”
The production house thanked the cast and crew, Star Plus, and industry associations for their support.
“Your faith and encouragement mean a lot to us. We are deeply thankful to Star Plus for standing by us, and most importantly, to the Almighty for keeping everyone safe.”
AICWA Demands Probe
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) posted about the incident, raising concerns about safety standards on sets. The body has demanded:
- A high-level investigation
- Accountability for potential negligence
- A review of fire safety protocols across all major production sets
Their statement noted that workers were reportedly present and preparing for the day’s shoot when the fire broke out.
What’s Next for Anupamaa?
Anupamaa, one of India’s most-watched Hindi television serials, may face a temporary disruption in shooting due to the damage. However, the production team is expected to resume work at an alternate location or rebuild the damaged set in the coming weeks.
The show, which stars Rupali Ganguly in the lead role, has consistently topped TRP charts and has a massive following on TV and OTT platforms alike.
This incident once again raises questions about fire safety on television and film sets, especially in high-density shooting hubs like Mumbai’s Film City. The entertainment industry has seen several such incidents in the past, and worker safety continues to be a point of concern for unions and associations.
