Simran, who arrived in New Jersey from India on June 20 for a reported arranged marriage, has been missing for over a week. Authorities suspect deeper motives behind her sudden disappearance.
New Delhi / New Jersey, June 29: A 24-year-old Indian woman named Simran has been reported missing in the United States just five days after she landed in New Jersey, reportedly for an arranged marriage. Local authorities in Lindenwold, New Jersey, are investigating the mysterious circumstances of her disappearance, raising questions about her true reason for travel.
Simran was last seen on June 20, shortly after her arrival from India. Surveillance footage from the area shows her standing alone, checking her phone, and waiting—though she did not appear to be in distress, according to the police.
Reported Missing Days After Arrival
She was officially reported missing on June 25, triggering a multi-agency search effort. Investigators revealed that her only means of communication was an international phone dependent on Wi-Fi, which has made tracking her whereabouts difficult.
“At this time there are no known family members in the United States, and none in India have been reachable,” said Lindenwold Police in a statement.
Questions Over Intentions of Travel
Authorities are now investigating whether the 'arranged marriage' was genuine or a possible pretext for Simran to secure a free ticket to the US, according to a report by the New York Post.
This line of inquiry comes amid concerns that the woman has no support network in the US, speaks no English, and appears to have arrived alone.
