Shri Rajan Tiwari (born Rajan Jee Maharaj, 6th September 1982 in the West Bangal city of Kolkata) known to his followers as Rajan Jee Maharaj is an Indian Hindu guru. He initially aspired to become a doctor. However, fate had different plans for him. A pivotal moment in his life transformed him from a successful businessman to an esteemed spiritual storyteller of lord Rama.
Early Life and Education
Rajan Maharaj was born in a Brahmin family in Kolkata. His whole family had a strong spiritual atmosphere, and he actively participated in religious events from a young age. His father was a devout man who instilled good values in his children.
Rajan Jee attended Scottish Church College, Kolkata, earning a BSc in Chemistry. He followed in the footsteps of notable alumni Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, before being drawn to spirituality. Dreaming of becoming a doctor, he prepared for medical entrance exams, but circumstances prevented him from pursuing a career in medicine.
Business Journey and Struggles
When his dream of becoming a doctor did not materialize, Rajan Maharaj partnered with his brothers to establish a factory that manufactured small train parts. The business flourished, and he became deeply engrossed in his work.
Despite his business success, his inclination toward spirituality persisted. He had a passion for singing devotional songs and regularly participated in religious ceremonies at home. This interest would eventually lead him to a completely new path.
Spiritual Inclination and Guru’s Blessing
In 2002, Rajan Maharaj sang a deeply touching devotional song. His guru, upon hearing the song, invited him for a meeting. This encounter became a turning point in his life. His guru encouraged him to become a Ramkatha narrator. Initially, Rajan Maharaj found it difficult to accept this path, as he had never considered it before.
In 2006, his guru organized a Ramkatha event in Kolkata, which brought Rajan Maharaj even closer to him. Gradually, he began studying religious texts and developing a stronger inclination toward storytelling.
Journey to Becoming a Ramkatha Narrator
Even after his marriage in 2007, he continued to maintain close contact with his guru and engaged in spiritual discussions. One day, while visiting his guru in Kanpur, he was told, "You are blessed by Goddess Saraswati. Your purpose is not to manufacture iron parts but to narrate the Ramkatha." This left Rajan Maharaj in deep contemplation.
Making such a significant life decision was not easy. Despite a stable and successful business, he felt drawn toward narrating the Ramkatha. Eventually, he decided to follow his guru’s advice and began memorizing the sacred tales.
First Ramkatha and Family’s Support
Rajan Maharaj memorized the entire Ramkatha in just 20 days. He then arranged a small gathering in his home’s satsang hall, set up harmonium and tabla, and narrated the Ramkatha to his family members for the first time. The session lasted four hours.
After the narration, his family performed his aarti as a mark of respect. This encouragement solidified his decision. He informed his father of his wish to become a storyteller, to which his father responded, "My life's greatest blessing has come true." With his family’s support, Rajan Maharaj devoted himself entirely to spreading the message of Ramkatha.

Rajan Maharaj has since traveled across India to narrate the Ramkatha. His storytelling style is simple, engaging, and deeply emotional. He doesn’t just recite the tales but also incorporates valuable life lessons. His narrations include devotional music, making them even more captivating for the audience.
