In a tragic incident at the Gokulpuri metro station in Delhi, one person lost their life while four others sustained injuries as a portion of the boundary wall collapsed on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Vinod Kumar, 53, from Karawal Nagar, was declared dead upon arrival at GTB Hospital. The incident occurred at around 11:04 am when a section of the elevated platform's boundary wall collapsed, causing part of a slab to fall onto the road below.
According to reports, the collapse led to injuries to four individuals, with one person trapped under the debris. Prompt response from local authorities, including the Gokulpuri Police Station personnel, ensured swift assistance to the injured. The Delhi Fire Services and public volunteers played a crucial role in rescuing those affected by the incident.
In light of the tragedy, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken immediate action by suspending two officials from the Civil Department pending an inquiry. The DMRC has also announced compensation packages, with Rs 50,000 for minor injuries, Rs 2.5 lakh for grievous injuries, and Rs 15 lakh for the family of the deceased.
The Gokulpuri metro station, part of the Pink Line, has been temporarily closed following the incident. However, train services on the rest of the Pink Line are operational as usual, with services from Maujpur to Shiv Vihar being run on a single line.
