He did his schooling from Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi.
She was good at studies during her school days and used to top her class 12 board exams.
Meanwhile, he also attended the Goethe Institute, New Delhi, to pursue a course in the German language. After completing her schooling, she joined Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to pursue MBBS, where she emerged as a gold medalist. As an MBBS student, she did an internship at Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi. When she was in her third year of college, Shagun finished her internship and started preparing for NEET PG 2022 exam. She secured All India Rank 1 in the exam in her first attempt. In May 2022, he secured 13th rank in INI-CET. Obviously, she comes from a family without doctors. Talking about this in an interview, he said,
I come from a family without a doctor, so being the first doctor in my family was a remarkable thing in itself.
I got a CGPA of 10.0 in Class 10 and 98.2% in Class 12 exams with the PCMB stream.

Shagun’s father, Mukesh Batra, works in the IT sector, and her mother, Meenu Batra, is a homemaker. She had a brother, who died in 2019.
Exam Strategy
In a media conversation, Dr. Shagun said that adequate sleep is a prerequisite for any exam. Sharing her exam day strategy during the conversation, she said,
Good exam practices such as sleeping well before the exam, taking good breakfast, reaching the exam centre on time, etc. were my specific exam day strategy. Trust your instincts, most of the time the correct answer is the one which you guess at the first go. Don’t lose hope, have faith in yourself.
While concluding her conversation, Dr. Shagun said,
Most importantly, it’s just an exam, don’t be discouraged if the results don’t meet your expectations. Keep in mind that your rank does not define who you are.

In her leisure time, Dr. Shagun likes to hang out with her friends and watch shows on OTT platforms.
Apart from academics, Shagun is also active in sports. She loves playing Badminton.
During an interview, Shagun shared that she never planned to pursue a career in the medical field. She said,
I come from a non-doctor family and being the first-ever doctor, I feel remarkable. I had no plans to proceed in the medical field and it was a last moment decision.
In an interview, she said that she desired to pursue her postgraduation from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, in MD (Medicine) and go for a super specialisation. She said,
I really wish to do my PG in Medicine Branch. I had qualified for INI-CET as well but couldn’t get this stream due to the low seat matrix. I’m hoping to get admission to PGI.
