Heated Clash in Speaker’s Office Over Remarks on Gandhi Family, Lok Sabha Adjourned
NEW DELHI (TheTrendingPeople): A heated exchange broke out between Opposition and BJP MPs inside the office of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday over remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey targeting the Gandhi family.
The confrontation followed the adjournment of Lok Sabha proceedings after Congress members protested against Dubey’s comments made during the House session.
Congress Protests in Speaker’s Office
After the House was adjourned, several Congress MPs met Speaker Om Birla to object to the Chair allowing Dubey to speak on the Gandhi family.
A video shared by IANS showed Congress leaders, including Deepender Singh Hooda, raising objections inside the Speaker’s office.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju and other BJP MPs were also present during the exchange.
Congress leaders demanded that such remarks should not have been permitted on the floor of the House.
Dubey’s Remarks and Chair’s Ruling
During the Lok Sabha proceedings, Dubey listed several books and referred to what they allegedly said about members of the Gandhi family. He said that while Rahul Gandhi wanted to quote from an unpublished book, he had brought published material to “expose” the family.
However, Krishna Prasad Tenneti, who was in the Chair at the time, disallowed the remarks, citing Rule 349. The rule prohibits members from reading from books, newspapers, or letters unless directly related to House business.
Following this, the House was adjourned till 5 pm.
Disruptions Over Naravane Memoir
The disruption is part of a larger standoff that has continued since Monday over references to the unpublished memoir of former Army chief M M Naravane and its reported mention of the 2020 India-China conflict
Earlier, Congress members displayed banners featuring Naravane and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, while Rahul Gandhi was seen holding a book in the House.
Rahul has repeatedly attempted to raise the issue of the 2020 standoff and was interrupted by Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, who urged him not to rely on unverified sources.
Rahul Writes to Speaker
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to Speaker Om Birla, expressing “strong protest” over being denied the opportunity to speak during the President’s address in the Budget session.
He termed the restriction a “blot on our democracy” and alleged that the government was “scared” of the contents of the unpublished book.
Continuing Deadlock in Parliament
Proceedings were earlier adjourned till 2 pm following noisy protests by Opposition members. Since Monday afternoon, repeated disruptions have stalled legislative business in both sessions.
Parliamentary affairs officials said efforts are being made to restore order and allow normal functioning of the House.
Our Thoughts
The repeated adjournments and confrontations in the Lok Sabha reflect the deepening political divide during the Budget session. With sensitive issues linked to national security and political accountability being raised, maintaining parliamentary decorum remains a challenge. Unless both sides agree to structured debate, disruptions are likely to continue, affecting legislative productivity.
