NEW DELHI: Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, arrived in New Delhi on Monday for a brief but significant official visit, underscoring the growing strategic partnership between India and the UAE amid heightened tensions in West Asia.
In a notable diplomatic gesture, Narendra Modi personally received President Al Nahyan at the Delhi airport. The two leaders were seen greeting each other warmly and later shared a ride while leaving the airport, reflecting the close personal rapport that has developed between them over the years.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and builds on the strong momentum created by frequent high-level engagements between the two countries. Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi described the UAE President as a “brother” and highlighted the importance of the visit for bilateral relations. He said the visit “illustrates the importance he attaches to a strong India–UAE friendship” and expressed optimism about the discussions scheduled later in the day.
President Al Nahyan’s visit is expected to last around two hours, during which he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi. While the official agenda has not been disclosed, discussions are expected to cover regional developments in West Asia, economic cooperation, energy security, trade, and investment ties.
Monday’s visit marks Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s third official visit to India since assuming office as UAE President and his fifth visit to the country in the past decade. His frequent engagements with India reflect the growing strategic alignment between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi, particularly in areas such as defence cooperation, clean energy, infrastructure investment, and regional stability.
The visit comes at a time when West Asia is witnessing increased geopolitical uncertainty, making coordination between key regional and global partners increasingly significant.
