Mehidy Hasan Miraz Responds Sharply to BCB Remarks, Defends Players’ Integrity
Dhaka: Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has strongly criticised recent comments made by a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official, saying the remarks have left the team’s dressing room “deeply disappointed” and created a misleading narrative about players and finances.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Miraz addressed statements by BCB director and finance committee chair M Nazmul Islam, who had labelled former captain Tamim Iqbal an “Indian agent” and suggested players could face financial consequences if Bangladesh did not take part in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India.
Miraz said players view the board as their guardian and expressed dismay that such comments came from within the administration.
Players Earn Through Cricket, Says Miraz
Rejecting claims that cricketers live off public money, Miraz clarified that the board’s revenue is generated through cricket itself. He explained that sponsorships and ICC revenues are directly linked to matches played by the national team, stressing that players earn their share through performance and participation.
He added that without cricket being played, neither sponsorship nor international revenue would exist, underlining the players’ central role in sustaining the sport financially.
Tensions Escalate Within Bangladesh Cricket
The controversy has now reached the players’ association level, with the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) demanding Nazmul’s resignation and warning of stronger action if the situation does not improve.
Miraz described the episode as damaging beyond individual players, saying such remarks were embarrassing for the wider sporting ecosystem. While acknowledging that criticism over performance is part of professional sport, he said personal and political accusations cross an unacceptable line.
Our Thoughts
Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s response reflects growing frustration among Bangladesh’s players over respect and accountability within cricket administration. As tensions rise, how the BCB addresses these concerns could shape player-board relations ahead of major international tournaments.
