PM Modi’s Strategic Three-Nation Visit: Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman on Agenda Next Week
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman from December 15 to 18, in a major diplomatic outreach aimed at strengthening India’s ties across West Asia and Africa.
PM Modi will arrive in Jordan on December 15 for a two-day visit at the invitation of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. According to the PMO, both leaders will review the full spectrum of bilateral ties and exchange views on key regional developments. Officials say the visit provides an opportunity to deepen cooperation in trade, security, cultural exchange and regional stability.
In the second leg, PM Modi will visit Ethiopia on December 16–17, marking his first-ever visit to the African nation. He will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, focusing on development partnership, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, education and capacity building. The PMO described the visit as an affirmation of India and Ethiopia’s shared commitment as partners in the Global South.
PM Modi will then travel to Oman on December 17–18 for his second visit to the Gulf nation. India and Oman share a centuries-old relationship and a modern Strategic Partnership. The visit comes as both countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations. Discussions are expected to cover trade, investment, energy security, defence cooperation, maritime partnership, food security and emerging technologies.
Officials say the visit will reinforce India’s outreach in regions critical for its economic and strategic interests.
Our Thoughts
Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming three-nation tour comes at a strategically important moment, as India continues expanding its diplomatic footprint across West Asia and Africa. Jordan remains a key partner in regional stability, Ethiopia represents one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, and Oman has long been one of India’s most trusted allies in the Gulf. By touching all three regions in one visit, India is signalling its readiness to engage more deeply in global affairs while strengthening ties that support trade, energy security, defence cooperation and people-to-people bonds.
The visit also aligns with India’s broader foreign policy vision of building stronger partnerships across the Global South, supporting economic development, and ensuring regional peace and stability. As geopolitical shifts continue, these engagements will help India bolster its role as a reliable, influential and constructive global partner.
