Delhi Government Forms New Panel to Track Pollution as Air Quality Worsens
The Delhi government is preparing to set up a new high-level panel to monitor pollution levels across the national capital, with chief minister Rekha Gupta leading the team. The decision comes at a time when the air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the ‘very poor’ category for the third straight day.
The panel will include ministers from the Delhi cabinet, senior officials from various departments, and experts working in environmental research. The objective is to strengthen monitoring, improve coordination and ensure immediate action whenever pollution levels rise in different parts of the city.
Departments Asked to Enforce Penalties for Violations
All government departments in Delhi have been ordered to take strict action against pollution-related violations. This includes penalties for individuals, private companies and even government bodies that fail to follow anti-pollution rules. The administration aims to reduce dust, burning activities and emission-related issues through stronger enforcement.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi recorded an AQI of 333 at 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Nehru Nagar reported the worst air quality with a reading of 388, while Mandir Marg recorded the lowest level at 236.
Centre Directs Delhi-NCR Industries to Install Emission Monitors
The central government has also increased pressure on highly polluting industries in the Delhi-NCR region. Industries have been asked to install real-time emission monitoring systems and pollution control devices by December 31.
Officials reported that over 2,200 highly polluting industries have still not connected their emission monitoring systems to the central server. The Centre has warned that strict action, including possible closure, will be taken against units that fail to meet the deadline.
States across Delhi-NCR have also been directed to finalise their 2026 air-pollution control plans within a month to strengthen long-term environmental goals.
Delhi High Court Advises Petitioner to Approach Supreme Court
The Delhi High Court heard a plea seeking urgent steps to bring pollution levels under control. The court noted that the Supreme Court is already monitoring the situation and has passed several orders related to air quality management. It advised the petitioner to approach the top court for further action.
Final Thoughts from TheTrendingPeople
Delhi’s fight against pollution continues to be a long and complex challenge. The formation of a new monitoring panel shows that the government is looking to improve coordination and enforcement. However, long-term progress will require both strict action on polluting industries and cooperation from the public. With winter conditions adding to the problem, stronger systems and faster responses remain essential for protecting the health of residents across the capital.
