Saat Samundar Paar’ Remix Sparks Debate as Anand Bakshi’s Son Objects to Lyric Credits
The newly released remix of the iconic song Saat Samundar Paar from Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday’s upcoming film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has triggered mixed reactions online. While some fans welcomed the nostalgic revival, many others criticised the updated version, saying it diluted the soul of the original 1992 classic.
Mixed Audience Response to the Remix
The recreated track, shared on social media ahead of the film’s Christmas release, quickly drew attention. Several users expressed disappointment, claiming the remake failed to capture the emotional depth and musical intensity of the original song from Vishwatma. The original version was composed by Viju Shah, sung by Sadhana Sargam and Udit Narayan, with lyrics penned by legendary lyricist Anand Bakshi.
Anand Bakshi’s Son Raises Credit Concerns
On Wednesday, Rakesh Anand Bakshi, son of the late lyricist, publicly objected to how lyric credits were assigned in the new version. Taking to Instagram, he questioned the practice of crediting another artist as a “co-lyricist” when the original lyrics are largely retained and only a few new lines have been added.
He shared a screenshot showing both Anand Bakshi and Karan Nawani listed as lyricists. Nawani has also sung the recreated version.
Rakesh Bakshi stated that the industry should follow the same format used for music credits, where contributors are clearly labelled as “original” and “additional” composers. He argued that similar transparency should apply to lyrics, especially on streaming platforms.
‘It Breaks the Continuity’
Rakesh Bakshi further criticised the newly added lyrics, saying they did not align with the original emotional intent of the song. While he acknowledged the singer’s effort in slowing down the composition and delivering a polished vocal performance, he expressed dissatisfaction with the rewritten lyrical portions.
According to him, the new verses disrupt the thematic continuity of the original song and do not reflect the creative thought behind Anand Bakshi’s writing.
He also tagged the music label Saregama and the singer in his post, calling for urgent reforms in how credits are assigned in modern music releases.
